High School Ministry

SMA “CYO” is the high-school youth group of St. Matthew the Apostle Catholic Church, for teens in grades 8 - 12. Through social, spiritual, service and sports events & activities we seek God, support each other and build community.

CYO Teens lead one 6:00 PM Sunday Mass a month, usually the 1st Sunday.

Fall Mass & Meeting Dates: Sept. 8th, Oct. 6th (Plan-a-thon), Nov. 3rd, Dec. 8th
Spring Mass & Meeting Dates: Jan. 5 (Plan-a-thon), Feb. 2nd, Mar. 9th, Apr. 6th, May 4th

At Plan-a-thons” teens brainstorm events for that semester and parents volunteer to be the “Adult Function Coordinator” - the adult volunteer - for each event. Dinner is provided for everyone! Parent support is 100% essential to a vibrant and active CYO, and I am very grateful for all the parents who help make CYO a success.

We meet weekly for "Faithful Friday" - 6:00 AM Mass @ SMA on Friday followed by coffee at PJs before school starts. SMA CYO also participates in the Archdiocesan sponsored sports league, with one or two teams playing cabbageball, volleyball, basketball against other NOLA youth groups. Additionally, CYO hosts fundraisers, socials, Bible studies and other events throughout the year. Every other year, we attend the March for Life in Washington, D.C. and on opposite years, we attend the National Catholic Youth Conference in Indianapolis, Indiana.
