Liturgical Ministries

Music Ministry: The St. Matthew Music Ministry provides leadership, lyrics, and music in an eclectic program that enriches celebrations and encourages full participation of the congregation.

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion:  Assist in the distribution of Holy Communion at Eucharistic celebrations. They may also volunteer to take Holy Communion to hospitals, nursing homes, and homebound parishioners. Ministers are commissioned for service to the community in accordance with Archdiocesan guidelines. They assist at liturgies on a rotating schedule.

Sacristans: Appointed to assist in the preparation of liturgical celebrations. Sacristans are charged with the care of the sacristy, the church, and their contents, and with setting up the vestments, altar, and generally preparing for Eucharistic celebrations (including weekly Masses, special liturgies, weddings, funerals, Confirmation, and First Communion.) Sacristans assist at liturgies on a rotating basis.

Lectors: Lectors are volunteers from the parish community whose primary duty is to proclaim the Word of God. Lectors should be dedicated and responsible persons with good articulation and reading skills. Each lector is given a book to use in preparing to proclaim God’s Word. Lectors assist at liturgies on a rotating basis.

Ushers: Men and women of all ages who greet people as they arrive at Church, help seat latecomers, collect the offertory gifts, distribute materials that might be necessary for use at a particular celebration, help with the flow of Communion, and distribute the bulletins as people leave Mass.

Altar Servers: Young people are encouraged to participate in a special way in the communal worship of the parish.  Youth in grades four and up are invited to be liturgical ministers who assist the presiding priest and deacon.  After training has been completed, altar servers assist at liturgies on a rotating schedule.  If interested contact 737-4537 or 737-2662 or submit the online form below.

Altar Society: Volunteers take care of the altar on alternating weeks. Duties include light cleaning, watering plants, taking inventory of supplies, cleaning fonts and straightening pews.

Flower Committee: Maintains the floral arrangements for liturgical celebrations and decorates the church for the different seasons of the year. If interested, contact the rectory at 737-4537 or [email protected]
